The Opening Bell: Where currencies start for Friday, August 16, 2013

The NZD/USD opens higher at 0.8065 this morning after a volatile night.

The USD strengthened initially on a better Unemployment Claims number (320K vs. 334K), but saw a sell off shortly after due to as much worse Philly Fed Manufacturing Index (9.3 vs. 15.6).

The GBP had a good night after UK Retail Sales numbers surprised to the top side for July.

Stock markets currently: Dow Jones -1.40%, S&P -1.42%, FTSE -1.58%.

The NZD opens the crosses - 0.8835 AUD, 0.6045 EUR, 0.5160 GBP, 78.54 JPY, 0.8315 CAD.
