By Dan Bell

The NZD/USD opens under 0.82 this morning following a night of broad USD strength.

Better than expected US jobless claims data last night have increased the odds the Fed will start tapering in December. US bond yields have gone up and the US Dollar is stronger as a result.

The NZD opens at current indicative levels: 0.8880 AUD, 0.6084 EUR, 0.5068 GBP, 82.88 JPY, 0.8610 CAD.

US stocks are up with the S&P 500 gaining 0.8%. Gold prices are down 1.13% but oil prices have gained 1.47%.

In his speech last night RBA Governor Stevens talked about the potential for FX intervention.

It's a quiet day on the local front with NZ Migration data at 10:45am the only local release.
